Long time ago there lived a sage who was a very good and kind hearted man. He preached to the world the words of God and spread peace and love wherever he went. One cold night when he was returning back to his hut he saw two children shivering and crying. He stopped and told them to get back to their home. The elder of the two told him that they were orphans and had no home. The sage was filled with pity and love for them. He asked them to accompany him to his hut. Since then the children and the sage lived together.
The younger child was more religious than the elder, he was more interested in hearing the good words spoken by the sage. The elder child spent most of his time playing. One day the sage asked the boys to bring some wood from the forest nearby to repair the hut. The boys went to the forest to cut woods. While they were chopping the wood they heard the voice of a grisly bear. The younger one said to the elder boy, “Don’t be afraid. The bear will not hurt us. God will help.”
As the bear came nearer, they saw a strange anger in the bear’s eye. Both of them trembled with fear and fell down to the ground. The grisly bear came near and started sniffing them. Looking up they saw a thorn on the bear’s paw. Taking courage the younger boy pulled out the thorn from the bear’s paw. As the thorn was pulled out the bear was relieved of his pain and his anger disappeared. Showing his gratitude towards the boys, the bear gave them a ride and helped them carry the woods to the hut.
Lesson: One good turn deserves another. God protects His believers.
